Nicole Richie was born on September 21, 1981. She is an American actress, author, celebutante and an aspiring singer. She is the adopted daughter of Lionel Richie. When she was three years old, Nicole began attending weekly sessions with a psychotherapist and remained in therapy throughout her childhood. She was legally adopted by Richie when she was 9.

Nicole studied the guitar, cello, violin, and piano. In 1986, she started kindergarten at The Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California where she met Paris Hilton. After she graduated from Montclair College Preparatory School in 2000, she joined the University of Arizona to study art and media.

With a big success, she made her acting debut in the movie Kids in America. The movie was a non-fiction drama comedy about the experiences of young people in modern-day America. She also started starring in television series including Eve, Six Feet Under and American Dreams.

Nicole wrote a semi-autobiographical novel, The Truth About Diamonds. The novel is loosely based on her life. It chronicles Chloe Parker, the adopted daughter of a singer who makes her way through all of the hottest nightclubs and parties in Hollywood and battles a drug addiction The Truth About Diamonds in 2006 peaked at number #32 in Hardcover Fiction on The New York Times Best-Seller List.
