Gels

Styling the hair is the perfect way of enhancing your looks. The art of hair dressing directly depends upon the wide variety of products and hair styling tools that are available in the market comprising of lacquers, serums, gels, hair sprays, setting lotions, hair dryers, rollers, straighteners, crimpers, curling irons, wax etc. Gel is a great hairstyling tool that helps create a number of ravishing hairstyles. It can be used to create waves, curls, spikes and messy crops.

Gel as a hairstyling product can be used to stiffen hair into a particular hairstyle. Hair gels allow people to achieve the perfect look without having to set it again and again and keep the hair looking sharp and sexy. Gels look like jelly and usually come in a tub or tube. One can apply gel with their fingers to dry or damp hair. Gels can be used to create strong, spiky looks and are ideal for curl separation and more structured styles.

Homemade gel

One can also prepare gel at home. All one needs to do is to dissolve 1 tsp of gelatine in 1 cup of warm water. One should store the gel in the refrigerator and use this homemade hair gel as one does with a readymade hair gel. Make sure that the gel is used within a week after which it may get spoiled.

How to use gels?

Before applying gel firstly you must wash your hair thoroughly.

Then you must dry your hair with a towel. If you have frizzy hair then you should dry your hair after applying gel.

The third step is to apply a little gel on the palm of your hand, spread the gel evenly on the hand.

Apply the gel on the hair by starting at the front of the head and then evenly spread the gel to the hair, working it in deeply using your fingers. You should make sure that you apply the gel through to the roots.

The last step is to brush or shape the hair into the desired style. You can also twist their hair with fingers to encourage curls.

Useful tips for gels

One should avoid applying hair gel to the ends of the hair as it weighs it down and reduces the motion.

One should not apply too much of gel on a particular area alone.

Hair gels are great for fine and medium hair types. If one has thick hair then one has to make a special effort to style their hair.

Any type of hair and hair style only requires a small amount of gel, so one should not use excess gel as that would give one’s hair a hard and crunchy look.

One should perform a patch test to ensure that the skin is ready for the hair gel that is going to be used.

Beware

Before using a hair gel one should be aware of the following points:

One should wash their hair as soon as possible if the gel causes discoloration or itchiness on the scalp.

The gel that one uses may leave a white residue behind and flake off which may be caused by several factors like one could be using too much gel or one could also be using too high a strength of gel or a cheap quality gel.

One should avoid using gel near the roots if one has oily hair or if one wears their hair for more than one day without washing.

Gels can really make a hairstyle look its best but can be harmful to the hair so make sure that the gel you are using is not cheap and suits your hair texture. It should not irritate or damage the skin or you might end up with an infection. Whether one wants a casual look to go out with friends or wants a formal look for a party, using gel is the perfect option to keep the hair looking at its best without having to set it again and again.
